End of an Era – 6

Over the weekend I went to the demolition of Collin Creek mall early to see what progress had been made since last week. With just a few more grabs of the claw Macy’s will be gone.

The last iconic arch wall is now see through to the builders supply all the way across highway 75 to the east.

The bigger claw to the left is pulling the building apart while this one sorts the rubble.

As I came back from an errand, I drove back by on Sunday and most of this is gone too. One of the few times I left the house without my camera.

End of an Era – 5

Collin Creek mall is well underway of being demolished to make room for the new facility.

It’s interesting, for me anyway, to watch the heavy machinery knock this building down. With the precision of a very large human hand, the operators can separate the tin from the re-bar and concrete and place in individual piles.

I will be back next weekend to see how much more is knocked down. At some point I may post a photo time-laps.

End of an Era – 4

Collin Creek Mall is being demolished and investors are making way for a new mixed-use facility.

With fences all the way around, I have to find some higher ground to get the camera over them to see what is behind. Heavy machinery and piles of scrap lay around on the east side where the demolition is underway.

It looks like they may have attempted to save some of the Mosaic that was on Macy’s.

Maybe this is what is meant by an “Open Air” Mall.

End of an Era – 3

Another shot from inside Collin Creek Mall. The escalators were still operating for some reason. Of course I rode up and down a few times.

I guess they left them running to make it easier for photographers to navigate the empty mall.

We went back a day or so later and they were still running. Even Adalyn had to ride at least once!
