Picture a Day – Rose

I decided to try something a little different, for me anyway.

Take a picture a day for a week of the same subject in the same location with the same camera settings. These were taken in my home office/studio (I wish) at about the same time of day. The differences being the ambient light coming in through the 4×6 ft window on the east side. The other lighting is from a single 40 watt spot light in the ceiling.

What once started out as a pretty pink rose, became a pretty decaying rose as they always do. I suppose beauty IS really in the eye of the beholder.

Bluebonnet Trails

Over the Easter weekend we decided to take a little trip to Ennis, Texas about 60 miles south of Plano to see the Bluebonnet Trails the City advertises.

After installing an App we drove to the Field of Dreams, north east of Ennis. The Bluebonnets were starting to bloom, but wasn’t quite dreamy yet. On the way we did see this cool old barn.

We drove to the other side of town to find Bardwell Lake and another Bluebonnet area, but still not many Bluebonnets to be found. Driving back towards town, we looked for another field named Meadow View Nature Area.

Bingo! Still not quite in full bloom, we did find some of the State Flower of Texas and all its glory. The orange flowers are called Indian Paintbrush.

It was a little overcast and very windy, but overall a success.

On to the next adventure, A Tree house!

Yellow Rose of Yesterday

Trying to not be a slacker husband that I am sometimes, for Juanita’s birthday, I brought home some flowers. One of which had a pretty Yellow Rose.Juanita's Birthday Flowers_20180108_007Juanita's Birthday Flowers_20180108_001

One afternoon while on the kitchen table I saw light hitting the flower through the blinds and could not pass up this shot.

Of course after a few days, even with the little packet, they wither and die. The reason I typically don’t get cut flowers.

On the other hand, It gives me a little creative outlet.

Be still and see the flowers

I have been thinking about doing this for a while now especially since I rented the Canon Macro lens a few weeks ago.

This type of photography is a little harder than you would think. I need a REAL white background instead of poster board. I used cheap reflectors and garage lamps with LED, and curly CFL bulbs for lighting. Sometimes I used flash as a fill and flood. The problem is too many shadows. Some turned out nice and I may print a few.

These are from our flower beds.High Key Rose_20171030_081IMG_6690IMG_6703

I bought a single yellow rose to play with as wellIMG_7064IMG_7070IMG_7101

Juanita got these in a vase for Halloween with a little scare crow. They are about on their last leg but make a pretty good photo.IMG_7271IMG_7217IMG_7146

A neighbor has these Mexican Sunflowers in her flower beds at an apartment down the street. Yes, I asked before I cut them.
